Ok today's (16-10-00) update,

Yesterday I noticed that the starter wasn't hooked up.So what to do when you don't have a manual yet ??

just send a post to the Aermacchi E-group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aermacchi )

Got a nice plan/explonation on how to handle this one from Steve Bentley and the starter works.. well it turns..but it doesn't engage, must be incomplete and missing some sprockets or things like that.I'm not gonna fix that now, first I want to make a few short trips/tours on it.

tnss35010 looked like a fairly clean bike at the shop but turned out to be pretty greasy

tnss35011 Left side shifter for 1973/1974 models.

tnsseng1 I didn't take the engine out yet, I'm just gonna wait for bad weather to proform that and then I'm able to get to them spots I could get to now.

tnsseng3 04-11-2000 cleaned the cylinder as good as I could.Only the left side tho. There still are a few spots that need more attention....

tnsseng2 Looks shine already

tncarb1 25-10-2000; Ok I know this isn't the best picture,

but you get an idea what the carburettor and airfilter looked like before cleaning.

tncarb02 This is what the Dell orto looks like now,I know the pictures are better. :-) .I changed the main jet from a 120 to a size 130 the original factory size is 125, wonder why "they" put a smaller jet in it.

I put the stock airfilter back on because the one in the picture didn't fit the way I want it.

tncarb03 The flange on the intake side is a bit short,so when I tighten the clamp the airfilter just doesn't stay firmly in it's place and pops off after a while.

and put the #120 main jet back in (4-11-00) #130 was too much.....

Not all good luck, this is the starter crank gear. broke down with some ugly noises.

and here's the reason why , was repaired before with "JB" weld. Ordered a "new" case from Kampen racing Holland.

30-11-2000, bike is a bit more stripped .

mmh doesn't look like a bike anymore.

But the only way to get the complete frame degreased.

08-12-2000, opened up the engine....

and there's the chain for the starter no wonder the start motor is only spinning and nothing happens.

A new chain is on it's way

the planetary gears seem to be OK just a broken chain ........ just have to put it back together.

Here's a close up think it's easy to see that the grease sticks to everything.. frame, engine,bolts..

10-12-2000, and with the engine out of

the frame it's much easier to work on..

new parts

By now I have all the parts that I need to repair the engine,

starter gears, starter chain, left engine cover, gasket set..

well the cylinder and head didn't looked as clean as I want them to be so ripped it apart....and it needs new gaskets so what else could I do.

sometimes it takes bigger tools to get parts separated.......

Dave Rush was a great online help tearing this engine down ....

this is what it looks like on the inside.

think this picture speaks for itself.

just separated from the engine .....

Here's the head again nice and clean

powder blasted by

yes the cylinderfins look nice too...

and I thought I had the engine cleaned already, now this is clean !!.....

just look at that mirror shine :-).....

engine cleaning .. done first week of Januari 2001

I broke the middle piston ring trying to get it off

talked with Jan Kampen and he's gonna change the oil scrape ring

put up a picture when I get it back ....

06-04-2001

got the engine back from the bike shop they did a good job but was big $$,

a bunch of bearings where replaced and the crankpin cleaned.

So I put it back in the frame and started asembling the missing parts

mmhh the startergear doesn't fit and after a while I found the culprit :-( the outer cover is a 1973 model and there was a change in this part somewhere mid 1973 so the holes don't line up...had to order a new one a 1974 was prefered...............

today (06-04-01) the "new" cover arrived it took an extra week to get here Jan Kampen was too busy to send it. So another week delay .. well I get used to it by now.

first I degreased it and checked if it fits .. yep fits it's a 1974 cover so that's ok. Continued with the "normal" process sanding and polishing, think it's good anuff this way.

OK when I get the bike up and running I probably have more time to update the page

have a bunch of pictures to put up here, so visit again in a few weeks for updates.

today it's october 13th 2001

yep the bike is "up and runnin' "

but didn't had the time to update this page..

so just a short notice for now..

I needed a few parts so we went to Gijs, the parts guy from the Dutch Aermacchi club.

Most off al I needed a new speedometer cable the old one broke..

well it comes in handy every now and then to know how fast your going.

I also needed a nut , the one that goes on the long bolt that holts the exhausts brackets

Did I put it on or lost it due to this bikes vibration??? mmhh

I also needed a horn .. but to bad he didn't have one..

I made an aluminium bracket for the horn .. but that broke off

yep vibration...

also bought me a cover to play with

this is what it looks like now this is what I have in mind

but did do any thing too it yet..
